The first book has our cat and bird, Bubba and Boo, respectively, exploring their new neighborhood shortly after moving to Marshall Township. They overhear a story about a beaver (which is a true story that we, the authors, heard) and become curious to find and meet this beaver. As they search, they make many new friends along the way, all of which are real animals that live in and around Marshall Township. When they finally meet the beaver, whose name is Matilda, they discover she has a problem she cannot manage on her own. Bubba and Boo ask their new friends to help. Grateful for Bubba and Boo’s leadership in solving her problem, Matilda gives Bubba and Boo the nicknames “Captain Cutie Pie” and “Deputy Boo.” The neighborhood friends agree these are fitting nicknames for our heroes.
