It took seven years for Kurt Larson to earn an honors degree in Mining Engineering from Michigan Tech. He didn’t let schooling get in the way of his education, nor his skiing. He earned beer money by writing for the student paper The Michigan Tech Lode, The Daily Mining Gazette in his hometown of Houghton, and Ski Racing magazine. When he began his 40-year long professional career in the minerals industry he was soon writing peer reviewed papers and lectured to professional bodies around the world. His experiences led him to dabble with a bit of fiction, with books like “Under the Batholith” (sex and mining), “Winter Carnival (Queen)” (sex, ice hockey, and skiing), “A Farewell To Skiing” (more sex and skiing), and “Long Skis//Short Stories”(more of the same, only shorter) to his credit. Following the controversial sale of a business he devoted 25 years towards, he wrote “The Takeover Diaries” as a novel inspired by the truth under the pen name of Rock Svensson. All of these titles can be found on the usual websites with major credit cards accepted.
Kurt now lives, cuts firewood, fishes and hunts on a remote estate in the Highlands of Western Scotland where he can look out at the mountains and the sea and think about where he will go skiing next. Kurt’s latest book is called ‘The Skiing Diaries’ and is a 696-page tribute to the truth about his life in skiing, laced with extra interesting short stories. He is working on this next book, a novel about mountains, war, a bit of skiing and other great fascinations.
