Dr. Myra L. Weiner, an internationally-recognized toxicologist, has authored over 40 research publications and is an elected member of the American Board of Toxicology and the Academy of Toxicological Sciences. Her twenty-nine years of experience in the toxicology department of a major chemical company have given her a unique, insider’s view of a male-dominated workplace, as shared in her memoir. Her career story is featured in Her STEM Career: Adventures of 51 Remarkable Women, Book 1 (2018). Myra lives in Princeton, NJ with her family.

In this book, Myra traces her journey from a young girl fascinated with nature to a mature woman who has fulfilled her dreams professionally and personally. She showcases her perseverance in seeking a doctorate in pharmacology from a medical school when few women were admitted, and her trajectory to a successful career as a toxicologist for a large chemical company. Throughout chosen poisons are used as metaphors for her “toxic” experiences, including a mentally ill sister, a father who was both a mentor and abuser, and a husband who was not emotionally available. To overcome each obstacle, she utilizes emotional traits as “antidotes” to navigate her journey from a nature-inspired girl to a high-achieving scientist. Throughout her career, Myra balanced her career responsibilities with those of raising three children.

She candidly explores the challenges of a male-dominated industry and complex family dynamics, offering an inspiring roadmap for those seeking professional success, emotional healing, and spiritual fulfillment.
