About The Author

Sal Panicci was born in the 1950s in Paterson, New Jersey—the same town as Lou Costello. Growing up in a lower-middle-class neighborhood, Sal initially believed every household was like his: fathers who worked hard and mothers who tended to the home. However, while other families were building futures, Sal’s father was often losing his wages to the local gin mill or bookie.

Everything changed on a rainy winter afternoon when Sal was ten. His mother, Tina, found the fortitude to become a single parent long before it was the social norm, setting the stage for a life defined by resilience. Despite the financial hardships of a single-parent household, Sal excelled. He graduated as valedictorian from Don Bosco Technical High School and, through the guidance of his counselor, Father Paul Grauls, earned a full scholarship to Seton Hall University, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Following a successful thirty-year corporate career, Sal found himself at a crossroads, needing to start over just as his mother once had. He began this new journey by honoring her legacy. Following the timeless advice to “write what you know,” Sal penned A Life Well Lived, a moving recollection of Tina’s strength and spirit.

Sal continues to draw from his rich life experiences in his writing. His published work, In the Toy Box and forthcoming work From Road to Geoffrey Way, offer an insider’s look into his twenty-five-year career at Toys “R” Us.
