Dr. Sylvanus N. Wosu is an esteemed Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also serves as the Associate Dean for Diversity Affairs He earned his PhD in Engineering Physics from the University of Oklahoma in 1988 Dr. Wosu’s research focuses on composite materials’ dynamic penetration and fracture mechanics, including bio-composites and biosensors. He has established a Dynamic Materials Behavior Lab equipped with advanced high-speed imaging and data acquisition systems. His contributions to diversity in engineering have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2012 NAMEPA Outstanding MEP Award and the 2004 University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s Affirmative Action Award.
